WHY IT MATTERS

WHY IT MATTERS

American history is hardly what we learn in school. What we learn in school is American mythology. It's a mythology that pathologically excludes Women and People of Color and elevates white, Christian men. By design this encourages along the notion that history is their exclusive dominion. That history is only defined by what they experience. It's important to us that THE ROEBLINGS isn't bound to what passes for American history; in fact, the piece harbors a healthy suspicion towards it. So, it's slightly ironic then, that we attempt to set the record straight through make-believe. But it's through this make-believe that we are delivered to greater truths about America and a greater sense of who we are as Americans. THE ROEBLINGS doesn't aspire to be history. It's art. One of the few things we can still rely on for the truth.
